Aquaria for Linux: Open Beta
A new port of Aquaria has been completed by the prolific Linux codemaster Ryan C. Gordon.
You can download it here and play it until January 13th: aquaria-beta-installer.run
The installer has beta test details (bug tracker, discussion list) in its README.
Thanks in advance for your help and a huuuge thank you to Ryan!
P.S. The Aquaria: OST is now available digitally!

Finally a Linux Version and a reason to buy Aquaria.
December 15th, 2009 at 10:10 am
I played half an hour (until I got the move-song) on 1920×1080 and it was a pleasure. Everything worked as expected. I played the game in Windows two years ago and its the first time I see the improvements made by the patches. Great.

Thanks for a linux version! I can’t wait till I can buy a non-time-limited version.

Just installed the beta on Ubuntu AMD64 without any problem. The game looks beautiful and fun to play. Definitely on my shopping list.

Couldn’t wait for physical CD delivery so I bought it digitally as well.
Minibadass (Boss Fraught Remix) is simply amazing. Throws me back at time when games used tracker music, hypnotizing synth bass lines. Would love to hear more of that type, remixes of boss themes and my all-time favorite track in Aquaria: Remains.
Tried linux version yesterday on my HP mini311 netbook, runs okay, although there are few bugs here and there. I will play a bit more and put bugs down into tracker at weekend I hope.
Thanks a lot!
I hope Alec and Derek will make Aquaria sequel one day.

This is awesome. I’m getting it as soon as it’s released.
December 24th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
Simply perfect, works great only says:
WARNING: no AL_EXT_vorbis support. We’ll use more RAM. (on ubuntu 10.04 (beta) 64 bits)
No problem at all.
Whats the diference in content of open beta compared the final version?

Hmmm, awesome, I’m most likely buying it *but* there are times when it gets slow on my hardware @ 1680×1050: GeForce 7600GS + Phenom II X3 710 + plenty of RAM. This machine runs Quake 4 at full details without problems, so this may be something to look into…

Best way to get Linux user to buy your game is to give it to them for free. No joke
So far I’m getting a bit of slow-down/speed-up at random and every 15 minutes or so I get a flash of desktop. I’ll do a real report in the real report… thing.
January 13th, 2010 at 11:06 am
So the beta is up. When can we get the real deal?
January 14th, 2010 at 1:49 pm
Downloaded Linux Beta2. Now I don’t have any sound problems anymore, but the game crashed shortly after I entered cave 2 …
January 17th, 2010 at 2:52 pm
Release date?
January 17th, 2010 at 9:16 pm
so, when can we expect a linux demo? the beta’s apparently expired now.
January 19th, 2010 at 1:39 am
Beta expired , where can I buy it?
January 22nd, 2010 at 12:51 pm
What Titi said. I want to give you my money so I can keep playing.
January 25th, 2010 at 3:51 am
FINALLY!
Thank you!!!
I have this running via Wine good but I will buy this one as well, just to support this step towards Linux.
I’m going to buy the soundtrack as well, awesome stuff.
Thank you.

Hm. I will definitely check this out!
If and when it is released, if I have proof that I purchased the windows version, will I be able to download this without purchasing again?
January 28th, 2010 at 12:14 am
Just installed the 3rd beta and it still crashes in the second cave …
January 30th, 2010 at 7:13 pm
This looks great! icculus fixed one flicker issue that was in the first beta. Normally I hate preorders — I want to see what the game and that it works on my box via a demo — but the beta worked as that for me. We can’t order yet?

Hey guys! This looks really beautiful! I’m waiting until the final version is finished to buy it. But I’m honest: I’m impatient like hell!
Keep on working!

Please release the game!

It is well known that cash makes people free. But how to act when someone does not have money? The one way only is to try to get the loans and just car loan.

May 4th, 2010 at 12:57 pm
Aquaria is included in the Humble Indie Bundle, a Linux version is available (which I am downloading now). Possible full version?
May 5th, 2010 at 12:34 pm
Seems to be a full version, non beta, and with no expiration. I’m really happy to finally have it.
There could be a few bugs remaining since the installer tells you to report bugs to Icculus, so maybe it wasn’t really the final version, but it works pretty well actually.
And of course, compatible with the Saves from the old beta.
May 6th, 2010 at 10:32 am
In the Aquaria forum it is stated that this is the full version.
May 6th, 2010 at 9:00 pm
Any official release so I can submit to Mobygames

Ok, so, I missed the Indie Bundle, my bad…
Is there any other way to buy the game for linux?
Or the only way is to build it myself from source code, buy windows version and copy game content files?
