Célu is Going to Gamma 256!

This isn’t Aquaria-related, (or the big announcement, that’s still coming!) but a side project of mine called Célu is going to be part of the Gamma 256 event happening in Montreal today. If you’re in the Montreal area, and you’re reading this blog right now, and you’re not already going (haha) - you should go check it out! Also, a bunch of people that worked on testing/improving Aquaria will be there! (Steve Swink, Daniel-D. “Guert” Guertin, Brandon McCartin and Noah Decter-Jackson [who worked on the game a bit back in the stone ages!])
Basically its a showcase for games made with 256×256 resolution or lower and use the XBOX360 controller. You can check out the full list of featured games on TIGSource.
I’ve been wanting to make a game partly inspired by Le Petit Prince for a while. Célu is kind of like that, but its not all that I wanted it to be yet. I’m hoping that once Aquaria is done I’ll be able to go back and flesh it out a bit. (I’ve only been able to spend ~4 days work on it over a couple months so far)
It also has music by yours truly! You can grab the music in MP3 format here.

Neat! Now all I need is an Xbox 360 to play it… say, you wouldn’t happen to have a free one handy, would you?

Its a PC game, Kokoromi just wanted everyone to use the X360 Controller as a standard to make the games easy to pick up and play.

I really like the music you are doing, the tunes from Aquaria are (so far) amazing. I sometimes let the 7-minute preview run in the background just so I can listen to it while working. Glad to have something a little more compatible with the rest of my playlist.

Hey Alec, love the music. I just want to say that i’m very passionate of all music and I love the way you compose. Aquaria’s music has been very impressive so far, and now Celu which sounds wonderful. You defenitely have some music talent my friend. I’m gonna be on the lookout for any music made by you, game related or not. And yes I will buy a soundtrack for aquaria if you decide to do it. Good luck on the launch, i’m waiting.

What ^implicid said. Lol.
I would play the game but I don’t have an XBOX360 controller (that and I wouldn’t know where to find the game).

I’ve got (a version of) it sitting on my hard-drive, but no Xbox 360 controller yet :’(
Also, Le Petit Prince is muchly awesome, I can see why you’d draw inspiration from it.

I use an original Xbox controller for playing games. Would that be sufficient? Or any other gamepad for that matter?
Just curious…
November 29th, 2007 at 10:49 am
Don’t know actually.
I could always make a version that uses keyboard control, if I get around to it.
November 29th, 2007 at 4:15 pm
If it uses a 360 controller, wouldn’t it also use any other standard gamepad or adapter?
November 29th, 2007 at 4:37 pm
Partially. But it doesn’t have remapping or anything, and it uses XInput for some things. (XBox360 specific code)
The reason they chose the 360 controller was because it was a live event and they wanted to make the games easy to pick up and play.

Hi.
I see some things that make me feel perplex, and give me some crazy hope : “Célu” is written in french and the screenshot is in french, so are YOU french ?
Because if you tell me yes, I’ll ask the question that torments me since I discovered Aquaria : will it be released in France (in French) ? I discovered it by chance and I LOVE it, I WANT it ! ^^ And will you release an OST CD ?
And… and may I keep this cute little music of Célu in my computer ? For exclusively personal use

I’m actually not French, but I did take french immersion - I’m Canadian!
Célu was in french in part cause the event it was made for took place in Montreal and also because of connection with Le Petit Prince.
A french version of Aquaria would be great! I don’t really know how/when we could do that though. And yeah, the Célu music is free to keep haha.

Would you happen to have sheet music for the mp3?

Hi Alec,
I attended the Gamma256 2 years ago. Would it be possible to get a copy of the binaries? Love this game, so simple, but so replayable.
Let me know,
Regards,
Jason.

New Warlock Spells: Fel Flame (level 81): Quick-hitting spell dealing Shadowfire damage. This is similar to the mage ability Frostfire Bolt, in that the lower of the two resistances (in this case shadow and fire) on your target will be used for calculating its damage. Additionally, Fel Flame refreshes the duration of Immolate and Unstable Affliction. Our goal for Fel Flame is to provide a spell that’s good for mobility and for use by Destruction and Demonology specs. Also, did we mention it uses green fire? Yep. Instant cast.
