Nope, Sfiera was the member who hosted it.

That doesn't mean that someone hasn't hacked into it to send you some where else instead of to the wiki... But perhaps you need to find the pages you can rebuild it? They don't get really lost unless you try searching for something that is really years old, try this link http://www.archive.org/web/web.php
It's a search engine for old internet sites and pages Smiley

So is this dead, then? Does a new one need to be started?

If a new one is started, I can try to design a logo and such.

But I do think a new wiki would be very helpful: it would be a lot easier to find info if all the hints and maps were in one place.

This came up over in the Ambrosia forums. I'd be happy to host a wiki if the bandwidth requirements aren't too high*. However, before I go installing wiki software, I'd love to have input as to which package to use; I don't have much experience with any of them, so if the community has any preferences I'll take them into account.

* My host, nearlyfreespeach.net, charges only for resources actually used. This arrangement is great for my little blog that I hardly post to, but if I put something high-traffic up I may not be able to afford the bill. I currently pay $1/GB, and I think I can afford a gig or two per month (which I really think should be plenty), but much more and my poor college student budget will hunt me down and smack me upside the head. Why not use a blog instead, they are free and you can have 2 or 3 running side by side so that not all information is on one blog? I have this Blog and so far I like this host as there is very little interference and almost zero requests for friendships lol

Happy New Year everyone!

I've got some good news and some bad news. The good news are that I have extracted the wiki pages from archive.org and put them into a temporary local wiki installation (I used dokuwiki instead of MediaWiki which was used for the original, but at least the data is in an easily convertible format again). The bad news is that all of the tile documentation and most of the Lua function documentation is missing from archive.org. Especially the latter will take some serious work to recreate. Luckily I've found a local backup of the function documentation, although it would take some time to get this into wiki format and contains only very brief information on each function.

I have written a PM to Sfiera hoping that he might put the wiki into working order again or that he at least has a backup of the wiki data.

Below is a list of the wiki pages. The ones not present on archive.org are prefixed with an asterisk ("'*").

Couldn't this info be hosted at the existing Aquaria wiki?

The scope of StrategyWiki is strategy guides and walkthroughs. I'm not so sure that it is an appropriate place for modding information. If we're unlucky, someone from their staff might just delete the modding pages, so I'm in favor of a safer solution.

Hiro: The Aquria pages on StrategyWiki and Sfiera's wiki have no common content.

I also got a reply from Sfiera:
Quote from: Sfiera
I recently wiped my server and started building it again from scratch.  I do have all the data backed up, but was not planning on reinstalling PHP, meaning I could not host a MediaWiki.  That does not preclude me from setting up an alternate type of wiki; if no one wants to host a MediaWiki I can try that.

Yeah, I was totally unaware of this "move", but if it is true that the content isn't the same then I wouldn't call it a move at all.
I definitely would find it nice if there was a safer, and better place for the resources for the modding community,... although I suppose it could be a completely separate website devoted to modding of Aquaria. Anyone up for the task?

Alright, it seems like MediaWiki is the most popular choice, so I've prepared an installation of MediaWiki for use as an Aquaria wiki. Right now I haven't done much in the way of configuration or customization; if the community decides to use this wiki then I'll make a logo and put some effort into the front pages and such. If not...I'll just quietly take it down. Wink

(I also still have to enable uploads. I'll get to it, be patient...)

By putting this up, I'm promising to preserve the content you post to it. If, for whatever reason, I am unable to continue to host the wiki, I promise to work with the community to get the content transitioned to a new home.

I don't anticipate that this will consume much bandwidth. Like I said above, I can handle a couple gigs a month, and I really think this should be plenty for what we want to do. If I'm wrong...well, we'll cross that bridge when we reach it.

I hope I didn't tread on anyones toes. Whilst looking for functions for my form changing problem I found a bunch of the sferia wiki stuff google has cached. So I copy-pasta'd it to the best of my abilities over to the Wiki site ryos posted.
